OUR VALUES
· Activating Awareness of Experts, Governments
and
Welfare Providers
We lead by creating and expanding awareness of social and societal problems among experts, government officials, community and business leaders, and welfare providers and practitioners. In doing so, we (a) enlist the help of the media, (b) create special policy platforms, and (c) organize special conferences and events with far-reaching participation and implications for research, policy practice and the welfare of people.
· Integrating and Connecting Different Fields of Expertise
Our aim and distinct feature is to connect experts in different fields
across the world, and particularly in Asia – such as, social policy, social work, social and societal development, economics, politics and public administration.
· Activate and Connect Experts
By having created this very active network, we aim at drawing in new experts who used to work in small groups, or alone, dispersed over far distances on the very same topics, or on topics that are interrelated, and hence enjoy a beneficial relationship to one another.
· Motivate Experts and Governments
In defending the name, the rationale, and the political ideology of social welfare, social policy, social work and social development, AASW sets
out to keep up motivation of and idealistic and down-to-earth support to policymakers, practitioners and researchers that endorse best practices
of social welfare, wherever, whenever possible.
· Decrease and Abolish Diswelfare
The greatest support for people’s welfare is often, and especially in
Asia, the abolishment or reduction of diswelfare – that is, e.g. the loss
of life, damage to health, risks, insecurity, despair, poverty, crime,
drugs,
injustice, social exclusion, abuse and neglect. Therefore, AASW
develops and supports Asian social and societal policies that also
take into consideration cultural and other local factors impeding human dignity, decent standards of living, and active freedom of the people.
· Increase Social Welfare
Whereas many, too many, associations, and governments, are hunting
for increases in GDP at all times. AASW understands that a broken leg, a raped women that needs counseling, a person that dies of lung cancer, a vitcim of terrorism, all increase the GDP of a certain country. Hence, it is time, for a major association to form and to promote the Social Welfare
of the people, to consult governments, and to change the concept and
the image of social welfare, introducing new approaches, theories,
and practices.
AASW understands that Social Welfare and Social Development are necessary ingredients to economic growth, and the overall success of societies. The sustainability of economies, and the sustainability of societies itself, depends on the defense and support of, and increase
in Social Welfare – on individual, family, community, national and
international level. Hence, AASW is out to maximize the Social Welfare
of people, and to facilitate and improve policymaking by assisting and cooperating with governments and institutions at all levels – in other
words, to maximize Social Quality.
· Ensure the Sustainability of Societies,
Nature,
and Economies
We act with the consciousness of protecting the integrity of societies, nature, and economies. Economies are the main single, but by far not sufficient, source of welfare. But without sustainable societies and a sustainable natural environment and resources, economies are fragile
and prone to collapse over time. Therefore, AASW is a convinced
defender of sustainable development, encompassing all aspects
of economic, natural and societal development.
· To Employ Best Practices in Social Policy
and
Social Welfare Provision
With the weapon of comparative analysis and study, AASW seeks to improve social and societal policy and social development in achieving best practices for each country and society, for each particular level of development, political, cultural and economic difficulties a country or society faces at different times.
· Striving for A Better Tomorrow
We at AASW aim, work and fight for ‘A Better Tomorrow’ for the people
and societies of Asia, and the earth as a whole.
